Incredible dress.  But even better is Rosamund Pike's, in the background.  It's worth seeing the movie just for the clothes.  (It's also worth seeing because it's actually about something more than clothes and boys.  Things like the point of education and independence and responsibility of parents and how people's decisions affect more than just themselves and on and on and on.  You could say I like it a bit.)

I'm trying to figure out what I would really, really feel comfortable wearing.  I love the chic polish of the Hitchcock blondes, but I'm never comfortable when I feel over-dressed.  I like the grubbiness of grunge, but it makes me feel slobby, and I'm not thin enough to pass it off.  So what would really, really make me feel comfortable?  I've been puzzling it over, and I think I've semi-figured it out.
I want to be the heroine.  You know what I mean?  Clothes you can adventure in.  They might not be the hugely fashionable thing, but you can live in them.
This movie is a little... but, anyways, KD looks and behaves the way I mean:
Her jacket comes on and off, she spends the whole day just running around, and looks totally unconscious of what she's wearing.  I know it's a movie, but the spirit is right.  I'm looking for a sort of loose, sixties feel.  Happy and light and careless.  I'm not sure what the clothes to get this feel would actually be, but I think knowing this will help.
I know what my clothes must not be, though. Nothing I have to layer or be always adjusting.  Nothing too expensive, because feeling free and careless in expensive clothing is almost impossible.  Everything well-fitted and flattering, so I feel confident that I look my best and can think no more about it.
How nice does that sound?
Pretty darn nice, I think.
Next day: found this on the Terrier and the Lobster and it's go the feel I want, too -

Oh, what the heck.  Let's be all girly and post some...
Jane Austen, baby!
One of the main reasons I enjoy the new film of Pride and Prejudice is because the colours - particularly the blues - are just gorgeous.  With modifications, obviously, I would wear just about every costume in that movie.  Well, at least, Lizzie and Jane's. Gwyneth Paltrow has lovely costumes in Emma as well - but they aren't as personally (gosh, I hate this word but it's the only one I can think of-) inspiring the way the Pride and Prejudice clothes.  P&P will date, already has a bit, but it still looks pretty to me.  Although, I liked Keira Knightley's hair a lot more in '05. Hm.
Kate Winslet is gorgeous, and that hat is totally sweet, so she is included, too.

funny fairy-tale.

let's be silly and girly and just run away from boring adult-ness as fast as we can.
One of my favorite pictures ever.

Coco Avant Chanel

I'm dying for a pair of pajamas like these.

Charade

I think I like her clothes in Charade more than her Breakfast at Tiffany's wardrobe.  And this also might be my favorite of her films.
Possibly because Cary Grant Cary Grant Cary Grant is in it too. Possibly

An Education

Not only is this, like, the best movie to come out in ages (it actually made you think! When was the last time you saw a thinking film?), the costuming was incredible.  Or, as Jenny would say (according to google translator), ils ont été incroyables.
The lovely Olivia Williams.
Okay, I didn't adore Emma Thompson's clothes - though they're still spectacular - but she must be included. I
adore Emma Thompson.  Like, to a creeper degree.
Rosamund Pike was beyond hilarious. Actually, one of my favorite parts of the movie was her dumb blonde.
Danny (Dominic Copper, on the left) has, officially, the best clothes ever in this scene. And the sunglasses he wears (not in this pic) are... are... awesome.
